DocUnlock was started by childhood friends Sepehr Fakour and Ned Cartmell who teamed up to solve the pernicious challenge of harnessing data trapped in unpredictable and widely-varying documents.
While leading and scaling a global customer-facing software engineering team at Algolia, Sepehr developed robust methods for creating data extraction and transformation pipelines for countless enterprise customers ranging from startups to the Fortune 100.
Meanwhile, Ned founded an operations organization within Flexport that processed endless streams of shipping and logistics documents. He observed how the global shipping industry, worth trillions of dollars, inefficiently relied on email attachments such as PDFs and spreadsheets for communication, requiring large teams of people to manually transcribe data across mediums.
Motivated by these experiences, Ned and Sepehr set out to build a better way for shipping and logistics companies to get the job done; employing best-in-breed computer vision, A.I., and error-correction technology to automate the repetitive and costly ways of the past.
